Article: STRENGTH IN THE UNEXPECTED

STRENGTH IN THE UNEXPECTED

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to create something of my own. Running a communications consultancy gave me stability but I missed the kind of work that allowed me to use my hands and imagination to create something lasting and beautiful.

Empathy and vulnerability deserve to be recognised as strengths.

In my years working in the corporate world, I often felt I had to present myself in ways that did not feel natural. I learned how to dance the dance to move things forward but the qualities I valued most were rarely recognised.

From ballet and later from studying music, I knew that true connection requires empathy and vulnerability. A performance can be technically perfect but if it does not move the audience, it has no life. The same is true beyond the stage. In business, the emphasis was often on results, yet the moments that created the greatest impact came when people, whether colleagues, clients or customers, felt seen and understood. That was the part I missed most.

Tapestry & Tales grew out of that belief. It is a space where beauty is interpreted in more than one way: delicate and bold, familiar and surprising, soft and strong.

I want these scarves to carry presence, to be felt as well as seen.

Each design begins as an illustration in my Warwickshire studio, inspired by the English garden. Dahlias, beetles and other motifs are layered into compositions that sometimes hint at heritage wallpapers and textiles, brought into the present through illustration and silk.

The first collection became the foundation of the brand. Printed in small batches in Macclesfield and finished with hand rolled hems, these scarves carry both craftsmanship and individuality. They are not just accessories but pieces created to have presence.

Not everything went to plan, but the making never stopped.

Starting a business meant doing everything myself, from packaging and design to photography and sharing my work online. It was daunting at times but also rewarding. Each step helped me find a community of people who care about thoughtful design and appreciate work that is made to last.

I have not walked this path alone. My husband and daughters have been my greatest supporters, encouraging me at every stage and reminding me why this matters.

To wear one is to carry something refined and imaginative while standing confidently in your own space.

At the centre of Tapestry & Tales is a belief that beauty can hold contrasts. Each silk scarf is gentle to touch yet striking in detail. They celebrate strength in the unexpected: a balance of elegance, edge and imagination.
